I don’t know anything really. Baseball is especially fickle, but even more so when you play the Orioles. Bless the Orioles, and bless their fans, if any still exist. They sure made me feel better about the Red Sox.
Love Eck.
If there’s any consolation they have the #2 ranked farm system in baseball with Baseball America!
The Sox farm moved from #20 to #9. Which considering the Sox are in contention this year, and have young players like Devers, who is still only 24, and Dalbec who recently graduated, this is a pretty good improvement!
Did I mention that Devers is only 24! Sometimes I can’t believe it, but it’s true! He officially is leading baseball in RBIs at 89 and 6th in MLB in HRs. That is pretty amazing from our favorite son. He absolutely needs to be signed long term.
Back to yesterday’s game. The Sox played the Orioles again! Which is great news, as long as it ends in a win, which it usually does. The Red Sox got a great start from ERod. He went 6 innings wth 6 Ks, and gave up 0 earned runs. They managed to plate one in the first after a walk, two singles, and an error. The O’s couldn’t do anything against him the rest of the afternoon. ERod was cruising and really didn’t want to come out. I liked seeing some fire in his belly not wanting to get pulled. In reality though, some guys in the pen needed some work and two off days this week made a lot of sense.
If ERod gets rolling the Sox rotation could go on a really nice role. Well, they already are on a nice roll, but this could extend for a long while.
The biggest highlight from the offense was the 2-out Julio Daniel dinger in the bottom of the first after the O’s got on the board in the top of the inning. Two out RBIs, as it has been said, is what gets you into heaven. They are a beautiful thing indeed.
Another great thing was Kyle Schwarber hitting a couple doubles. One was a ripped double that almost got out in right, then he waited on a changeup and put one off the wall. I can’t wait to see him get a bunch of wall ball doubles. He looks to be all that we signed him to be.
Bobby D could not continue his hot streak leaving 5 men on, and K’ing twice.
This week is a big week coming up. The Sox have three against the Yankees and then 3 against the Rangers. The Rays get 4 against the O’s this week, which is less than ideal. We can only hope the O’s somehow win 1 of those games. They at least have a 3 game set against the White Sox over the weekend, who despite the Yankees pen’s best effort, could not help us out over the weekend.
The Yankees come into a 3 game series against the Red Sox this week playing really great baseball (aside from the bullpen disaster). The pitching matchups look to favor the Red Sox in the series, but you never know what can happen in New York. Luis Gil looked very impressive in his two pinstripes starts. 14 Ks over 11 innings of scoreless baseball. Then the Yankees get the Twins, who somehow managed to scratch out two wins against the Rays this weekend. Thank you Twins.
We could be feeling a lot different after this week, hopefully we feel even better!
