Feasting on Salad
What more is there to say than Sale day is back! It was a nice Sale day for everyone involved, except the Orioles.
⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️ 8Ks over 5 innings. The slider looked like a vintage Sale “Sweepage” and it was a beautiful thing! He was throwing some gas too, hitting 95 consistently with the fastball.
The offense did try to steal the show again. I will say, it has been nice some of these games to get out in front early. Devers hit an absolute missile over the bullpen in the first inning (also to tie the league lead in RBI at 88, he would later take the lead with an RBI single). Devers is absolutely one of the best hitters in baseball, and he is so young. He needs to be locked up for a long long time. I am going to continue manifesting this into reality until it happens.
We’ve been waiting for Bobby D to heat up all summer long, and thanks to some horrible pitching it might be happening. We haven’t seen a Bobby D on fire like this since he came on the scene last fall and hit a bunch of dingers. Bobby hit two 💣s that got out in a hurry. They were horrible pitches.
Though I would not complain if the above came to fruition. He has had a hard time pulling right handed pitching all year, and he finally has started pulling them, with some fine results yesterday. This week has been a good week for Bobby so far, as it has for many Sox hitters with a couple runaway laughers.
Renfroe hit one in the 8th and Eck on the broadcast said, “This guy can absolutely feast on some salad”. Basically to say, Renfroe hammers bad offspeed pitching. I think this is a good metaphor for where the Sox season is. As I mentioned yesterday the Sox have a bunch of games against bad teams over the next bit, and they need to win most all of them.
Feast on some salad!
Some news from around the league:
Relevant:
The Rays lost, got demolished by a bad Twins team. We could use another gift from the Twins today. Division lead down to 4 games.
The Yankees won a great game last night. Their bullpen continues to be a living nightmare, but Judge showed up in a big way and had several majorly clutch hits, which, frankly, I could do without. Jose Abreu’s game tying dinger in the 9th was beautiful. Liam Hendriks coughed up another game, but could not be bailed out by Tim Anderson for two consecutive nights, as he had another chance with the bases loaded in the 10th.
Not so relevant:
Tyler Gilbert, in his first MLB start, tossed a no-no against a good Padres team. Pretty unbelievable stuff. Old friend Torey Lovullo had him on a pitch count, but kept extending it as the night went on. Somehow he got a 3-pitch 8th inning, which, I don’t understand how that happened. Link to a good recap of the night
This is a thing of beauty and sorcery.
Matt Moore also threw 6 no hit innings for the Phillies. A good story for Moore, who has really labored through his time in the league. He came up with “great stuff” for the Rays a while back, and has just bounced around never really being able to put together anything solid. As long as he isn’t on the Rays, I love to see good comeback stories for pitchers, or any players, who have to go through some stuff to figure it out.
