I mean.
How can you not be completely amazed by these Sox storming back to take a split in Tampa?
After a couple of non-competitive games to start the series and being decimated by COVID and frankly, just playing horrible baseball for basically all of August, the expectations certainly had hit a season-low for this team.
There’s something, for sure, to be said of setting your expectations so low, that you just can’t possibly be disappointed. It’s another thing entirely when you couldn’t think things could get any worse, and the Sox totally redeem themselves.
Bobby D with a couple more ribbies.
JD stung it a couple times.
Renfroe doing some damage against his old laundry.
Schwarbs, stop me if you’ve heard this before, on base multiple times… again.
We do. We like him. Well at least I like him. There are talks more and more swirling of trying to keep him around long term. I would not mind that at all. The problem is that it’s hard to have both JD and Schwarber in this lineup at the same time without wrecking your defense. But at the same time, it’s great to have both of them in the lineup at the same time. JD is a great hitter, we all know, we love JD. He doesn’t look completely himself right now. The book on JD right now is sliders out of the zone down and away and he just cannot seem to hold up.
The offense was good enough to score 4, but the real story last night was the pitching.
ERod was amazing. 6 innings of domination. He was in complete control of his pitches last night.
Let’s hear it for Garrett Richards.
This guy.
Inherits 2 ERod runners in the 7th, and just shoves for 3 innings. Impressive stuff! Slider looks great and his fastball has some nice life on it.
Saw this and just had to mention it.
Honestly just reading the name Aceves gives me anxiety. Also, I don’t like anything the same happening as 2011. But Garrett Richards being good is one that I will take.
Sox come back to Fenway, where they actually haven’t been as horrible lately, so hopefully can continue the good vibes for the next 3 against the Guardians.
Probably need to win all 3 since:
the Yankees get 3 against the Orioles.
the Rays get the Twins
The good news is the A’s and Jays play each other, so at least 1 of them will lose some ground. The Jays have been playing a bit better of late so maybe they can pull the A’s away a bit.
The lurking Mariners have the DBacks this weekend, so they could look to even things up with the A’s if things go their way.
Go Sox!
Also… how can I not mention this…?
Manny with literally the most Manny debut ever.
