The Sox thankfully moved on from the Rays series and started up a three-game set against the blessed Orioles of Baltimore last night.
TLDR: The Red Sox won easily. Bobby D and Jarren had great nights, and Pivetta shoved for 6 innings.
It could have been easy to miss, but the Red Sox starting rotation has quietly been amazing over the last 6 days. Since the doubleheader on Saturday in Toronto, the Sox starters have absolutely been cruising. It’s been hidden because of a couple of meltdowns from the Red Sox pen. Pivetta especially has been great the last two outings.
Wins are always good, they are great in fact. I love winning. Winning against the Orioles, whom I will never forgive, is also great. Having said that, the Orioles are horrible. I’m not really sure, outside of Cedric Mullins and Trey Mancini, that they would even be an average AAA team. Winning against them is nothing to write home about (as I write this very thing).
The Red Sox do need to be absolutely great over the next little while. They could go on a nice run and win a bunch of games, which would be nice. They actually need to win a large percentage of these games. Winning 13 of the 15 on this schedule is not out of the question with 3 of those teams absolutely in the tank, and the Guardians who also have been not great. At least when they seem to be playing the Rays or the A’s.
Back to last nights game.
Devers made a great play, and as Stats said, we need Devers locked up.
Bobby D and Jarren also looked great at the plate. The caveat here being, they booth lit up AAA pitching, so it doesn’t come as any surprise that they lit up the O’s, basically AAA pitching.
Xander seems to be getting his power stroke back. He hit a bit of a Fenway and Crawford Box (Houston) only homerun, but his two swings before that were bullets. He hit another ball out to the triangle that Mullins ran down that would have been gone anywhere except Fenway.
Fenway giveth and Fenway taketh.
Here’s to hopefully and, we absolutely need it, a lot of wins over the next week.
OH, AND IT’S CHRIS SALE DAY!!!!
